Social Studies_Tainos Pt 1_Lesson Plan

Interactive 5E lesson plans intended for Grade 4 Social Studies classes using the NSC (National Standard Curriculum). The plans have been used in classes containing up to 30 students. The plans are simplified so as to cater to learners at their grade level. These plans are simple and student-centered. Suitable for use in Caribbean territories and can be readily adopted for students at the primary level worldwide.

Duration: 1 week                

Attainment Target: Recognize the contribution of individuals who have helped to shape Jamaica’s development over time

Focus Question: Who were the original inhabitants of Jamaica?

Day One: Topic: The Tainos (physical appearance)

Specific Objectives: at the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

·         Describe how the Tainos met their basic needs and draw conclusions about how their economic activities affected the environment.

Key Skills: Observing and recording, Designing, locating places on maps, Conducting research
