Day 1 Topic: Taino’s Culture and Importance in Jamaica’s Society

Attainment Targets: Recognize the contribution of individuals who have helped to shape Jamaica’s development over time

 Prior Learning: Pupils should already be able to: 

  •                              Identify the basic needs

Objectives: By the end of the week pupils should be able to:

1.      Gather and interpret evidence from multiple sources on Taino culture in Jamaica and explain their use and importance in today’s society

Skills:  locating places on maps, drawing conclusions

Resource Materials: World maps, atlas, globe, blank Caribbean map, audio @visual material

(DVD) television/multimedia projector, picture of the coat of arms, pictures of early inhabitants.

ICT Attainment Targets:

  • COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION: Students use technology to communicate ideas and information, and work collaboratively to support individual needs and contribute to the learning of others.
  • DESIGNING AND PRODUCING–Use digital tools to design and develop creative products to demonstrate their learning and understanding of basic technology operations.
  • RESEARCH CRITICAL THINKING, PROBLEM-SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING: Use appropriate digital tools and resources to plan and conduct research, aid critical thinking, manage projects, solve problems and make informed decisions.
