DAY 1

Objective: At the end of the lesson, students should be able to identify, describe and discuss some of the religious celebrations associated with rites of passage (relating to pregnancy, birth and infancy) as practiced by major religions and in indigenous religious groups in the Caribbean where applicable

Content:

Pregnancy is the carrying of one or more offspring known as foetus or embryo inside the body of a female mammal, such as a human. In humans, pregnancy usually lasts for nine months. Religion plays a vital role in one’s life and there are certain beliefs and practices connected with the different religious groups.

rite of passage is a ceremony or ritual of the passage which occurs when an individual leaves one group to enter another. At their most basic, all rites of passage are characterized by three distinct phases: separation (leaving the familiar), transition (a time of testing, learning and growth), and return (incorporation and reintegration)
